I understand that this article may not be popular with some, but I will explain why God created all men to be naturally polygamous. Polygamy has existed since the time of the Bible and is not a modern practice. The term “polygamy” did not even exist 2000 years ago when the practice was common. This is why the Old and New Testaments do not use a specific term to describe the practice.
There are two biblical passages that provide important guidance on polygamy. The verses in question are Deuteronomy 21:15-17 and Exodus 21:9-11. Moses is given instructions by God in Exodus 21:9-11 regarding the treatment of Hebrew servants in polygamous households. Deuteronomy 21:15-17 also contains additional laws governing the rights of the firstborn in such households.
There are more examples of polygamy before the great flood. According to the Book of Jasher (Chapter 5), Adam’s step-son Cain had several wives. Lamech, a descendant of Cain, also had two wives, Adah and Zillah, as documented in the Book of Jasher Chapter 4 and the Book of Enoch Chapter 85.
Polygamy was also practiced among people of Seth’s lineage who were close to God. A lesser-known example is Noah, who had two wives, Naamah and Emzara, (Book of Jasher Chapter 5). In addition, Sarah, Abraham’s first wife, was unable to bear children due to her advanced age, so she gave Abraham, Hagar, her Egyptian handmaid, as a second wife. While Hagar’s status is debated, Abraham’s relationship with her was sanctioned by God, making her a legitimate wife.
Esau and Jacob are also two well-known polygamists. Esau had multiple wives, including Judith, Basemath, and Mahalath (Genesis 26:34, 28:9). Jacob had Leah, Rachel, Bilhah and Zilpah (Genesis 29-30), giving birth to Israel’s twelve tribes. These and other examples demonstrate God’s approval of polygamy for procreation.
Furthermore, some people still misinterpret Christ’s words in Matthew 19:5 as a condemnation of polygamy. This verse states:
For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined inseparably to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh
(Matthew 19:5)
To understand Matthew 19:5, it’s important to recognize Christ’s phrase ‘the two shall become one flesh‘ as a metaphor for physical union, particularly sexual relationships. This interpretation aligns with 1 Corinthians 6:16, where Paul quotes the same verse.
Do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall be one flesh
(1 Corinthians 6:16)
As you can see, Paul applies the term ‘one flesh‘ to any physical union, not just marriage (1 Corinthians 6:16). The terms ‘prostitute‘ and ‘wife’ are not synonymous, but the Bible uses the phrase ‘one flesh’ in contexts other than traditional marriage.
Why God Created all Men Naturally Polygamous
Sex is biologically designed to facilitate reproduction. Female reproductive cycles typically last 21 to 35 days, with ovulation occurring roughly halfway through the cycle. Males, on the other hand, produce sperm on a continuous basis and can ejaculate every day, with each ejaculation containing between 15 million and over 200 million sperm per millilitre of semen. Now, let us do some calculations.
A healthy male produces about 120 million sperm cells per day, whereas a female releases one egg per month during ovulation. If we assume that every man maintains this level of sperm production, then just 30 men could collectively produce enough sperm to impregnate every woman on Earth, assuming perfect timing and fertility conditions. This highlights one obvious fact that men are naturally polygamous because they were made to be seed carriers.
Furthermore, it is widely acknowledged that women are inherently emotional beings. This is often attributed to hormonal responses, specifically oxytocin, which promotes attachment and trust during intimacy. This explains why they develop strong feelings for the men with whom they have had sex. However, the same cannot be said for men.
The way men experience intimacy is influenced by their naturally more imaginative cognitive wiring. For men, sex is primarily a physical release with no emotional attachment. Men’s reproductive systems are designed to facilitate dispersion, so they serve as seed carriers. As a result of these biological factors, the average man may struggle to remain committed to a single woman.
Satan, knowing that men cannot be monogamous, invented monogamy to cause infidelity in men. He understands that men are not biologically predisposed to be with only one woman. Remember that if polygamy were permitted, there would be no need for adultery because a man would understand who he is responsible for under his roof. Most men today are unable to provide for their unmarried children because of societal pressure and, most importantly, their wives.
Finally, I want you to ask yourself the following question. Did the fact that polygamy is socially unacceptable and illegal make a difference for men? Aren’t men still exhibiting polygamy by cheating and having children with multiple women?
