The tattoo industry is projected to grow from $2.22 billion in 2024 to $4.83 billion by 2032 In the US, 21-40% of younger adults and 20-30% of the general population have tattoos. Meanwhile, the global cosmetics market is expected to reach $758.4 billion by 2025, highlighting the increasing popularity of appearance-altering services.
All of these numbers indicate that many people are willing to spend their hard-earned money just to change their God-given appearance. What most people are unaware of, however, is that makeup and tattoos have a dark history that dates back to the time of the biblical Seth.
In this article, I will reveal the true origin of tattoos and makeup, as well as the reasons why they are regarded as sins by God.
The Dark Origin of Tattoos and Make-up
The use of tattoos and makeup is not a new trend. It goes much further back than Egypt, Rome, and Babylon. The reason you are unaware of this is that the modern Bible versions, commonly used by Christians, have undergone significant edits and omissions. Because of this, I tell Christians to look in the Apocrypha for the other events that are missing from the Bible.
Right after Adam and Eve were sent out of Eden, there were two kinds of tribes living on Earth. These were Cain (Cainites) and Seth’s (Sethites) tribes, each with their own way of life. One followed a path of sin, the other a path of righteousness. The Sethites walked in righteousness as sons of God, whereas the Cainites indulged in evil practices.
Furthermore, the descendants of Cain were a corrupted line and distinctively marked, born from the unnatural union of Eve and Gadreel, the serpentine entity. They were a hybrid of human and angelic blood, known as Nephilim. To be clear, Gadreel was a fallen angel who led Eve astray in the Garden of Eden, bringing sin to humanity.
It was the Watchers who corrupted the Cainites by teaching them the art of preparing and applying makeup and tattoos. This information was disclosed in the second book of Adam and Eve (apocryphal).
31 And when they looked at the daughters of Cain, at their beautiful figures, and at their hands and feet dyed with colour, and tattooed in ornaments on their faces, the fire of sin was kindled in them.

In Genesis 6:1–4, the watchers went against their divine mandates by engaging in sexual intercourse with the daughters of men (Descendants of Cain, not Seth). Along with corrupting humanity through ungodly unions, the Watchers also spread forbidden knowledge, such as the use of tattoos and makeup, which further diverted humanity from God’s plan. One of the main culprit who was responsible for this was none other than Azazel, the chief leader of the Watchers.
As a chief leader among the Watchers, Azazel is associated with teaching humans various forbidden arts and knowledge, including cosmetics, metalworking, sorcery, idolatry, and the art of warfare, according to ancient texts. Azazel played a part in humanity’s demise, as the Book of Enoch explains in detail how his teachings corrupted us.
1 And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures. 2 And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways.
1 Enoch 8:1
The “Legend of the Jews,” written by Rabbi Louis Ginzberg, also detailed the corruption of the fallen angels on earth, especially Azazel.
Then the earth complained about the impious evildoers. But the fallen angels continued to corrupt mankind. Azazel taught men how to make slaughtering knives, arms, shields, and coats of mail. He showed them metals and how to work them, and armlets and all sorts of trinkets, and the use of rouge for the eyes, and how to beautify the eyelids, and how to ornament themselves with the rarest and most precious jewels and all sorts of paints.
Legends of the Jews 3 (Midrash)
In response to the corruptions of the Watchers, the Creator wiped the earth of the reprobates by opening the windows of heaven and allowing floods of water to pour down from above and below. As a consequence, the Watchers were imprisoned, with Azazel receiving the most severe punishment of all.
4. And again the Lord said to Raphael: Bind Azâzêl hand and foot, and cast him into the darkness: and make an opening in the desert, which is in Dûdâêl, and cast him therein. 5. And place upon him rough and jagged rocks, and cover him with darkness, and let him abide there forever, and cover his face that he may not see light. 6. And on the day of the great judgement he shall be cast into the fire.
1 Enoch 10:4-6
Even after the flood, tattoos, makeup, and every other abomination continued to spread. This was likely due to the influence of Naamah, Cain’s great-granddaughter, who, as Noah’s wife, brought some Cainites customs into the ark and passed them down through her son Ham to Canaan. This was how most of the watchers’ teachings made it through to generations after the flood.
Since Naamah was related to Cain, she also passed on the Nephilim DNA that was found in most humans after the flood to her son Ham, Canaan, Nimrod, and the people who came after them. This explains the existence of giants on Earth years after the flood. The Canaanites then passed down various knowledge inherited from their ancestor Canaan, including tattooing and makeup application, to their people.
This was the reason our Creator forbade his people from participating in such an activity (Leviticus 19:28), as it was adapted from the fallen angels (1st Corinthians 6:19-20). Most of the ancient Israelites described in the bible did not wear makeup or apply tattoos.
The ancient Egyptians, who were descendants of Ham through Canaan, also incorporated makeup and tattoos into their ritual ceremonies to honor their gods. Mummies like Amunet, who was a priestess of Hathor, had tattoos on them with abstract designs and symbolic motifs that showed their spiritual connection, status, and divine connection. In addition, they applied makeup such as red iron oxide for lip color, kohl (from galena) for eyeliner, and malachite for eye shadow. Kohl was used to ward off evil spirits and shield eyes from the sun.
As sin spread throughout the world, Jezebel became well-known for constantly adorning herself with makeup. Due to her marriage to King Ahab, Jezebel was Israel’s queen consort. Her influence over King Ahab and the kingdom of Israel is documented in the Bible. Jehu was selected by the prophet Elijah to serve as the new leader of Israel.
His responsibility was to wipe out King Ahab’s idolatrous kingdom, in which Jezebel was recognized as a critical figure. On the day of her execution, Jezebel intentionally applied makeup to seduce Jehu (2 Kings 9:30-31). According to 2 Kings 9:30–37, she was thrown out of a window, trodden on by horses, and then devoured by dogs.
In Jeremiah 4:30, the prophet Jeremiah used the metaphor of a woman adorning herself with makeup to illustrate the futility of Judah’s attempts to save itself from destruction. According to this passage, Judah’s fate is predetermined by its sins and disobedience, regardless of its attempts to protect or beautify itself. The pictures draw attention to the theme of spiritual betrayal and impending judgement.
Conclusion
The Bible contains at least three passages that strongly discourage the use of tattoos and makeup. Many Christians choose to overlook this fact despite this evidence because they firmly believe in the saying “my body, my choice.” This is because Satan, the god of this broken world, has made them believe things that are not true.
What is even more troubling is that there are between 8 and 16 million churches worldwide, yet none of them have united to preach on this act. If God did not spare the fallen angels for bringing certain knowledge to humanity, it implies that we were never meant to learn it in the first place.
